Joshua Blackburn is the inventor and Question-Writer-in-Chief of League of the Lexicon, the most successful word game in Kickstarter history. He is also the author of The Language-Lover's Lexipedia (Bloomsbury / Avid Reader Press 2025), and the League of the Lexicon Junior Edition (published by Two Brothers Games, the company he founded in 2023).
Before creating word games, Joshua ran Provokateur, an award-winning communications agency for charities. During this time he published Acme Climate Action (Fourth Estate, 2008). It won a D&AD 'pencil' and was a finalist at the British Book Design Awards.
As well as now being a boardgame publisher and accidental linguist, Joshua is a photographer, whose book Launderama (Hoxton Mini Press, 2018) is a beautiful portrait of London's endangered launderettes. His work has been exhibited at The Design Museum and The Other Art Fair, and featured in The Observer, Creative Review, Slate and more.
Joshua writes about words and language on his Lexipedian Substack - subscribe here. He also writes a regular quiz, and language column, for The Observer.
